In a world where so many “Christians” get it all mixed up and desperately cling to their rule book, rather than the breathing, living Word of God, it can be disheartening to stand boldly in my faith because I don’t want people who believe differently than me to think that I’m one of THOSE “Christians.” I’d rather people witness that I act like Jesus, then realize I that I have a deep relationship with my higher power that does not have to simultaneously threaten, nor JUDGE their belief system.
Just look at this lyric from “Oh Holy Night,” originally written by Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure in 1847 and since revamped (likely several times over) and now goes a little something like this:
“Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.”
What isn’t awesome about THAT? His law is LOVE and his gospel is PEACE? Yes, I’ll take an order of that, thank you!
So, as I approach this Christmas day, I personally celebrate the birth of Christ…the Prince of Peace. And I wish YOU all of the holiday wonder that is meaningful and inspiring to you, too!
