I created the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist so you have the motivation and energy to show up every day as a bold, brave, female entrepreneur! Music has always moved in my in extraordinary ways. If you are ever driving down Interstate 40 in Nashville and see a woman shamelessly jamming in her car, that’s probably me.
(Disclaimer: The inclusion of songs does not indicate my endorsement of every single word used in the lyrics or the artist who sings it. Let’s have fun and not overanalyze things or be offended over something that’s supposed to be fun, m-kay?)
So start up your YouTube and get ready to say, “That’s my jam!” This is DJ Bombshell Amber, spinning the ones and twos, with a special dedication to my Bombshell Business Women!
“Work Work” (the clean version of “Work B*tch”) – Britney Spears
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
You can post all of the motivational quotes in the world on social media and talk a big game, BUT if you don’t do the work, you will never realize your dreams. Sting a little? Remember, I’m not the person you dream with – I’m the person who asks you why you haven’t acted on your dreams. This song is a bit harsh for some, but it keeps it real, and that’s exactly how I like it! Nothing worth having comes easily, so you better work!
My favorite lyric
Hold your head high, fingers to the sky
They gonna try to try ya’, but they can’t deny ya’
Keep it moving higher, and higher
“I Am Woman” – Jordin Sparks
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
If there is one thing Bombshells have in common it’s that we are many things to many people, and we are dang good at most of it. We may be frantically paddling our fins under the water, but everyone else sees the graceful duck floating effortlessly with her head above water. That’s why we have to stick together, encourage each other, and remind each other, “ain’t nobody else can do quite like we can.”
My favorite lyric
It’s so rigorous
Doing what I do
Always on point
Always on cue
Life’s so hectic
Call it a zoo
Think you understand
If you only knew
“Run the World (Girls)”- Beyoncé
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
I mean…because “we run this motha,” first of all.
I love this song because it represents the determination and pride women must maintain to keep our businesses, families, communities, and friend groups running. Yet, it mixes in just enough indignation and anger for the disparities women still face today. Importantly, however, Beyonce recognizes the men who have our backs and support us — because Bombshells are not man haters. (I’m lucky enough to have an enlightened father, husband, son, brothers, former bosses, colleagues, and countless incredible male friends.) I also have ample experiences, though, to realize there is enough ignorance left in society to routinely put things in the I Seriously Can’t Even file. So once in awhile, in the interest of stoking our energy, we gotta stir up that piss and vinegar to find the chutzpah to keep running the world.
My favorite lyric
This goes out to all the women getting it in,
You’re on your grind
To other men that respect what I do
Please accept my shine
Boy I know you love it
How we’re smart enough to make these millions
Strong enough to bear the children, children
Then get back to business
“Just Fine” – Mary J. Blige
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
Mary J. Blige got me through completing my public relations degree as an adult returning student who was raising kids, working full-time and going through a divorce. She is my shero. Mary J has one heck of a story. After a tough childhood and rough start to stardom, she finally realized she was worthy of her talent and worthy of respect. She started making better decisions, surrounding herself with better people, and went on to impact the lives of million through her God-given gift: her voice. I used to play this song as loud as I could and sing at the top of my lungs on my commute to class. I knew, like Mary J, that I was going to be “just fine.”
My favorite lyric
So I like what I see when I’m looking at me
When I’m walking past the mirror
Aint worried about you and what you gonna do
I’m a lady so I must stay classy
Got to keep it hot, keep it together
If I want to get better
You see I wouldn’t change my life, my life’s just…..
Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, ooooh
“I Won’t Back Down” – Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
Let’s just say this is my life’s theme song. If you’ve read The Bombshell Business Woman you know that determination is one of my key drivers. I do believe that we are all on this earth for a reason. So we can allow others to define our lives for us or we can step into our calling and live a fulfilling life of service. Some days that is easier than others. Sometimes the resistance we face is our own, and sometimes it’s from external sources; but at the end of the day, “I won’t back down.”
My favorite lyric
Well I know what’s right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I’ll stand my ground and I won’t back down
“Dare You To Move” – Switchfoot
Why it made the Ultimate Bombshell Business Woman Playlist
Do you know who a Bombshell’s worst enemy is?
Herself.
It’s easier than ever for today’s professional woman to succumb to temporary insecurity traps because they now exist in a social media-edited world. They must be smart but not too smart; beautiful but not too sexy; savvy but not perceived as manipulative; empathetic but not too emotional; strong but not too masculine; equipped as a leader but not too dominant. And the list goes on of what they should be or how they should act or what they should do.
No matter what they do, there is always someone “should- ing” on them, so in these private moments of weakness, it is easier to create the voice in her own mind to simply beat everyone to the punch. That way, she doesn’t have to feel defeated and marginalized . . . again.
So a Bombshell’s constant struggle is living up to her God-given potential while also battling in her mind the difference between her expectations and the world’s expectations.
But to live up to her God-given potential, she has to have the confidence to move in that direction.
My favorite lyric
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
I dare you to move
