Every Bombshell Squad needs a perfectly feminine, yet not too sweet cocktail, which is fitting for a bold, brave, female entrepreneur! That’s why I personally created the Bombshell Signature Cocktail from scratch, right in the Hurdle Hizzle kitchen.
I mean, there’s nothing more festive than a signature cocktail made especially for a specific event, right? Well, consider your Bombshell Squad Book Club VERY special. The Bombshell Signature Cocktail goes perfectly with the Quick and Easy Book Club Menu, if I do say so myself! If you just want to cut to the chase and grab the recipe for one serving, here ya go! (Feel free to pin it!) If you want the backstory, keep reading.
How I Created The Bombshell Signature Cocktail
Just like the good ol’ days of my time as an event producer, I held my traditional “4:00 meeting.” This is when the event lead bartenders allowed me to try their various concoctions to determine which would end up as my signature cocktails. (These were also the days that my husband would pick me up from such meetings!) The only problem with this most recent “meeting” was that I had to come up with the aforementioned concoctions!
I knew it couldn’t be too sweet. I knew it had to be meaningful. I also knew it had to be delicious! So I pulled out everything I thought may be a consideration from what I refer to as the “girlie bar.” (This is the liquor in the cabinet over the refrigerator that is rarely used, versus the Bourbon-filled actual bar furniture piece guests frequently partake from.)
Some of my elixirs were too sweet or too tart. Some were too complicated or I was worried Bombshells couldn’t find the ingredients in a small town. I toyed with my favorite pink-ish drink: the French Martini, and after practically giving up I even busted out the tequila. (But let’s be real – it’s a book club. It’s not THAT kind of party!)
I waited several days, then made the final winner again. (This time trying it without having a sip of twelve other options.) I made a few more minor tweaks and declared it the one!
What I ended up with was a perfect blend of ingredients that can be prepared in a snap and enjoyed by just about everyone in your Bombshell Squad.
The Bombshell Signature Cocktail (Serves One)
The Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Vodka (I prefer Tito’s or Absolut, as they are both gluten free and tasty. I boycott Skyy, as their advertising has consistently objectified women, so they suck.)
- 1/2 oz Aperol (This is a low-alcohol, Italian apéritif made of bitter orange, gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona, and other herbs. It is a nod to my Italian heritage and my appreciation of the complexities of every Bombshell in your Bombshell Squad.)
- 1 T Lime Juice (Because lime makes everything better! You can squeeze ½ a lime or use lime concentrate.)
- Ice (I like shaken drinks because they are super chilled and it slightly waters down the liquor, knocking the edge off.)
- 2 oz Fresca (This is a diet lime and grapefruit citrus soft drink that could be substituted with Sprite. You would just miss the grapefruit flavor.)
- 2 oz Champagne (My personal squad is on a never ending champagne campaign. I mean, if you’re looking for festive, bubbly is a total requirement!)
The Directions
- Mix first three ingredients well in a shaker with ice (Don’t have a cocktail shaker? How about a spill-proof coffee mug or a protein powder shaker?)
- Strain into a sugar-rimmed glass (It will fill a martini glass to the tippity top. You can also use a rocks glass, a wine glass, or even a good ol’ clear disposable cocktail glass. I added the sugar rim to cut the citrus flavor a bit, but it can be left off if you are watching your carbs or sugar.)
- Top with Fresca and Champagne (Bubbly! Bubbly for everyone!)
- Enjoy!
Side Note: While Aperol has a low alcohol content and this recipe calls for a third of a typical champagne serving, both of those ingredients are still on top of a full serving of vodka, so sip slowly. Let’s not get crazy! You can switch to Pellegrino after you toast your squad!
Don’t want any alcohol at all? Check out the Bombshell Signature Mocktail to keep it festive and alcohol-free!
