The Epic Lessons I Learned as a Teen Mom, Part 2

08: The Epic Lessons I Learned as a Teen Mom, Part 2

September 20, 2016

Last week I told you my story of being a teen mom. I gave you the background of what life was like before I found out, how I told my parents, my traumatic birth experience when they basically ripped my daughter out of me only to find her “smurf blue” from suffocation. I told you about our two weeks of visiting her in the hospital and then about how it was all just weeks before I started my senior year of high school.

It was crucial.

But, I shared it with you so you would know that no matter what you’ve been through in life, you can find a way to a better place. I gave you a challenge and I hope you completed it. So if you didn’t listen to that episode to know how much of a sloppy mess I was in, go back and listen to part one, which is episode 07.

Now, today in episode 08, I’m going to share 7 specific lessons that I learned from the teen mom trenches that actually made me a better professional, better at relationships and better at adulting much faster than had I not been a teen mom.

7 Success Lessons From the Teen Mom Trenches

Lesson 1:  Figure out what you’re great at do it.

People will take notice and continue to offer you more and more opportunity.

Lesson 2: Borrow the experience of others. You don’t have to make all of the mistakes yourself, and you certainly can’t learn everything you need to know to be successful in one lifetime.

Lesson 3: Shoot people straight.

You will gain respect and maintain your boundaries.

Lesson 4: Be solution-oriented.

If something doesn’t work, try something different. If someone lets you down, find someone who is more faithful. Stopping when you hit a roadblock isn’t an option when you are on your own.

Lesson 5: Do what you say you’re going to do.

When people can count on you, you gain respect, people take you seriously and they TRUST you with greater responsibility and opportunity.

Lesson 6: Create a winning environment.

Clean off your desk, give a crap about how your office and house environments make you FEEL, and importantly, surround yourself with people who support you.

Lesson 7: It does get better, so keep going.

“Broken bones heal stronger.” One step at a time, one day at a time, know you are climbing that mountain and if you keep climbing up, even when you slip, you will make it to the top!
